Excerpt from Choosing the Correct Cooker Hoods :
Features. All cooker hoods, whether they are chimney style, integrated or island hoods are powered by a motor that sucks in the air from the immediate area and then either expels it into the outside air or passes it through carbon filters and backs out into the room. Therefore, the power of the motor effects the efficiency of the cooker hood and suitability to your room - the larger the room, the greater powered hood you require. The power of a cooker hood is measured in cubic meters per hour - how many cubic meters of air it can extract in one hour.
Rails. Some hoods, usually the traditional chimney style, feature rails across the front edge that can be used to hang cooking utensils off.
